Post Holiday 3 Day Refresh

Holidays are usually surrounded by junk food, large feasts and festive drinks and there is absolutely no shame in indulging in all three of those things.  That's life. I know I sure did. I still tried to fuel my body right (for the most part), but added all the goodies in addition to my regular eating. I definitely enjoyed myself, but there there is always the after effects.   Sure enough, after a week (and a half) of indulgence I felt groggy, lazy and bloated.

I'll be honest I was a little nervous of doing a 3 Day Refresh right after the holidays. I thought that not only would it be tough to go off the goodies cold-turkey, but I didn't know how it would effect my body (ahem.. in the digestive area) So I was a little apprehensive to say the least, but I was eager to get back to feeling energised.  On January 4th I am starting a 21 Day Fitness Challenge using a new program that comes with a new meal plan, so I wanted to use the 3 Day Refresh as a kick start.

What is a 3 Day Refresh?

-consists of 3 daily shakes (1 Shakeology, 2 Vanilla Fresh), a fibre drink, plenty of filtered water, plus your choice of fruits, veggies & healthy fats; all which keep you feeling energised and keep your metabolism going.  The meal plan is very simple, but gives you lots of alternatives to choose from based on your likes and plenty of healthy ways to add flavour.

Do you workout during the 3 Days?

Mild to moderate is recommended. I opted to ease my way back into physical activity after the holiday break. Throughout the day I would say my lifestyle was a moderate activity level and I did do a little shovelling on Day 2. During the refresh your body is using your energy to help clean up your system so you don't want to over do it.

I am a creature of habit, so to keep it simple I basically ate the same thing for all 3 days. I am not a stickler for following a schedule to the T. I am used to eating smaller portions throughout the day, it is just what my body is used to so I followed the plan, but broke up the snacks and shakes throughout the day. Each day I drank 3-4 cups of organic herbal tea made with filtered water, a litre or more of  plain filtered water and all shakes were made with filtered water as well in place of the almond milk I normally use.

MONDAY- Day #1

On the first day I slept in a little later than usual (like I said my holiday diet had left me feeling lazy).  I drank a glass of water as soon as I woke up and my Shakeology blended with 1 small organic banana within the hour.

Normally I would wake up and have my coffee with stevia and coconut oil first thing.  Although it is not a requirement, to get the full benefits it is suggested to not drink coffee during the 3 days, so I opted out on Day 1 and had a small cup of herbal tea instead.  Over the holidays I had upped my coffee intake from 1 to 2 cups/day and was expecting a withdrawal headache, but to my surprise, NO headache (Awesome!).

About an hour or so later I had my Fibre Sweep Digestive Drink and went on with my day as usual.  Lunch came and I first ate a medium tomato, sliced with 2 tbsp of all natural Guacamole (Avocado with herbs & veggies for a serving of healthy fat) and 1/2 a cup of grapes.  About a half an hour later I drank my Vanilla Fresh Shake.  It was actually left me quite full and I did not experience any hunger by the time supper rolled around.

Sometime in between lunch & super I had a cup of organic herbal detox tea.  In the schedule provided it lists to have a snack in between lunch & supper, however, today, since my time was a little off I switched it around a little and ate supper first. I love veggies, so for supper I had a few handfuls each of organic kale and arugula, one small zucchini sliced, 4 organic shitake mushrooms, minced garlic, an Italian herb blend, a dash of grey sea salt and pepper. I used a small amount of coconut oil to cook over medium heat.  This may not sound like much, but it was absolutely delicious, full of flavour and completely satisfying. Shortly after I had my Vanilla Fresh Shake.

A couple hours later I had a half a cup of organic cinnamon applesauce, 5 organic baby carrots and 2 cups of organic herbal "Nighty Night Tea" ( I steeped the same bag twice).  I went to sleep early that night and fell asleep very quickly.  Most importantly I did not go to bed feeling deprived or hungry.  Day 1 was a success.

TUESDAY- Day #2

Tuesday was a cold morning in the house so I had my organic detox tea first thing to warm up.  About half an hour later I had my Shakeology/banana shake.  I got ready to head out to town and then made my Fiber Sweep Digestive Drink to take on the road with me.  My original plan was to stay away from coffee for the full 3 days, however I had some work that needed to be done and attempted to go to the library, but it was closed , so I instead went to a local cafe to and ordered a black coffee with some stevia (I didn't drink the whole thing).  I went home for lunch and first ate the tomato & Guacamole, then had my Vanilla Fresh Shake a half an hour later and the grapes about an hour later.  An hour later I had a snack of two more tbsp of Guacamole (did I mention I love Guac?)  and 5 organic baby carrots,  an hour later had a cup of Nighty Night Tea, and an hour later ate my supper (same as Day 1) followed by one more cup of tea. As you can see I break it up so I really never even get the chance to begin to feel hungry.  Day 2 complete and still free from feeling any sort of detoxing discomfort!

WEDNESDAY- Day #3

Day 3's menu was basically the same as Day 1 and 2, just the timing was a little different (I am not a robot).  I skipped the coffee again today and still, no headache!  I felt energised, no more  holiday "fluff" around my waist and I actually found myself craving healthy foods!

MY RESULTS

I will be honest, I dreaded the thought of doing a cleanse even though I knew my body needed it. I hate the feeling of being restricted, and most importantly I can not stand feeling hungry(that's when it is hardest to resist cravings).  I am very happy to say that I have found a cleanse that does not feel like 3 days of torture; the 3 days actually flew by.

I found myself eating(or drinking) something every hour and never had the chance to go hungry. Whether or not this has to do with the cleanse I can't say for sure, but I definitely woke up in a better mood each day.  I felt energised throughout the entire day (even on Day 1 & 2 without coffee)  I did not experience any bloating, gas, diarrhoea or headaches the entire time.  My holiday bloat is gone & I am down 1lb (I am only 4'11 so that is like the equivalent to someones 3-5lbs who is of average height, hehe). I also slept like a baby on Day 1 and Day 3. Day 2 it took me awhile to fall asleep (which I believe had to do with the coffee I had that day as it felt like the caffeine affected me more than it normally does).

All in all I am beyond satisfied with the 3 Day Refresh.  It did exactly what I intended; broke some bad habits in preparation for my next 21 Day Fitness Challenge on January 4th. It will make a great addition to my new Health Regimen as a quarterly and/or holiday cleanse.  I am feeling ready to take on 2016! How about you?

Shakeology Christmas Treats!

Tis the season for homemade goodies & treats. Being home for the holidays has really tested my self control and my diet.  While I admit I do like to indulge in some childhood favorites, I don't think it's necessary to wreak havoc on all my hard work over the last couple months. Not only do I not want to overindulge on the sweets, but I also want to make sure my body is getting enough of what it needs! So I am making sure to drink, or in this case, eat my Shakeology every day.  So today I opted to make my own healthy treats to give me some Christmas-y comfort.  While I am not much of a baker I do love to experiment & try new things. I was quite content with how these turned out!

After a long day of Christmas shopping I made myself a gingerbread Shakeology to drink while I worked away!
Now, as I mentioned I am not much of a baker, and I am also not much of a measurer.  I didn't haul out the measuring cups & spoons, I like to go by taste.

Gingerbread Shakeology

*1 Scoop of Chocolate Vegan Shakeology
*a dash of ground ginger, cinnamon, & almond extract.
*unsweetened vanilla almond milk & a handful of ice cubes
*blend well. (I use a magic bullet)
(My daughter LOVES to bake and made her own treats too!)

Chocolate Candy Cane Truffle Bites

*Melted coconut oil mixed with 1 scoop of Chocolate Vegan Shakeology and approx two tablespoons of unsweetened vanilla almond milk.
*mix until a thick consistency and when it is able to be rolled into balls. Roll in crushed candy canes. Place in fridge to harden

Chocolate Shakeology Frogs

A childhood favorite were always my mother's Chocolate Frogs(macaroons), so I adjusted the recipe to come up with something similar!
*coconut oil and 100% pure maple syrup melted on the stove and brought to a boil.
*remove from heat & add in 1 scoop of Chocolate Shakeology, shredded coconut & oats.
*mix well and scoop into something that will keep its shape until it hardens. I used a muffin tin & scooped a spoonful into each and placed in the freezer to harden.
*About 15 minutes later removed them from the freezer and from the muffin tin and placed in the fridge.

22 Tips; Healthy for the Holidays.

The holidays are just around the corner and so are all the goodies, treats & drinks to go along with it! It would be unrealistic to say NO CHEATING over the holidays, but there are ways to indulge the right way.  I say go ahead! Eat your favorite holiday treats, but make sure everything is done in a HEALTHY balance.  The season is for enjoyment and relaxation, not restricting and busting your butt, but it also shouldn't be about eating yourself into a food coma.

I am all about enjoying myself over the holidays, but I am certainly not about to throw my health out the window and neither should you.  So I made a list of 22 stress-free tips to stay healthy over the holidays. You CAN indulge without the bulge this year!

  1. Stay Hydrated- Make sure you carry your water bottle with you wherever you go. Being dehydrated can sometimes confuse you with hunger and those tasty treats are already tempting enough.
  2. Carry some small healthy snacks to eat throughout the day. Snacking increases your metabolism and helps to ward off hunger.
  3. DO NOT SKIP MEALS. Often times people think in order to save their calories they should skip a meal, but the opposite is true. If you have an event or meal planned, eat normal throughout the day it will help you to eat less and make smarter choices.
  4. Don't drink your calories. Try to limit caloric drinks like pop and eggnog.
  5. Don't have an all or nothing mindset.   You can indulge without doing away with the rest of your healthy lifestyle.
  6.  Be realistic and don't beat yourself up over indulging. You are human, treat yourself and enjoy it!
  7. Get adequate sleep. Being tired can trigger unhealthy choices.
  8. At meals, fill your plate with as many veggies as possible.
  9. Wear fitted clothing. That way it is easier to tell when you are full (sometimes we ignore those signals when we are eating food we love).
  10. Make healthy swaps when you can.  If you are baking try swapping out certain ingredients for a healthier alternative.
  11. At Christmas and social events don't converse by the food table.
  12. Choose your absolute favorites to indulge in. If you can eat it any day, skip it. (Like that extra roll with butter)
  13. Enjoy the conversations.  Spend your time enjoying the company of family and friends, don't make it all about the food!
  14. Politely decline to take leftovers home with you.
  15. If you are traveling over the holidays make meals and snacks (and water!) to take along for the trip. If you must eat take out choose wisely, save the indulging for the get-togethers and events.
  16. Take up an active winter hobby such as skating, snowboarding, skiing or snowshoeing. Or make plans with friends to try a new one out each week!
  17. Schedule workouts when you can. Plan ahead. If you know you have an event that night, rise and shine and workout. Not only will it help you make healthier choices, but you are less likely to skip it completely.
  18. Have fun, keep moving! Every little thing counts.  Dance the night away, pick and cut your own Christmas tree, go for a walk to look at Christmas lights, build a snowman or have a snowball fight with the kids!
  19. Choose alcoholic beverages wisely. Some of those fancy Christmas-y cocktails are often loaded with calories. Choose red wine for its health benefits (in moderation of course) or keep it low cal with vodka.
  20. Skip the hangover.  For every drink you have make sure to have 2 glasses of water. B-vitamins and milk thistle are also great to take before and after!(*If you're a wine drinker stick with Organic or wine's from Argentina as they don't use added sulfites (the thing that gives you headaches!)
  21. Speaking of supplements. Fill up on fiber before meals and events.  Taking psyllium helps to slow the absorption of carbs and alcohol. Or drink your Shakeology to curb the cravings for sweets!
  22. Get back on track after Christmas. There is always that grey area in between Christmas and New Years where people usually continue to indulge and then vow to break bad habits as soon as they ring in the New Year. Use that time to get back into healthy habits to make it easier to stick to that New Years Resolution!

Want to become a Beachbody Coach? Coach Info Webinar!

Do you...
*dream of working from home?
*have a passion for health & fitness?
*want to design a life of freedom for you and your family?

Well, I have some awesome news for YOU!  My Mentor, friend & TOP TEN Coach, Brittany LeGette will be holding a Coach Info Webinar on Wednesday,December 16th @10pm (9pm, EST).

This is the woman who inspired me to become an Independent BeachBody Coach.  Don't worry, there's no pressure on you.  It's for you to sit back, relax and listen to a PRO give you the inside scoop of what being a Coach is all about to see if it's the right fit for you.

Don't let the term "COACH" scare you. You don't need to be a fitness or health expert. All you need is that drive to live a happier, healthier life and share your story in hopes of inspiring others along the way! You are NOT required to be a salesperson or have any business experience whatsoever.  Would you consider yourself a salesperson for recommending your favorite Salon to someone? Nope!  You are simply sharing something you are passionate about.  You will receive all the support and tools you need. All you need is to be Coachable.

I would not reccomend something I did not whole-heartedly believe in.  Becoming a Beachbody Coach has changed my life in a matter of months & it would be selfish of me not to share this experience with you!  Not only am I building a future for me and my family I am growing each and everyday, I get to be surrounded by a FAMILY of up-lifting, supportive people who help me out every step of the way, and, not to mention I am getting in the best shape of my life.

You might be saying, "But I am not in shape yet." You don't need to be!  Coaching is all about sharing your journey.  There is nothing more inspiring than watching someone every step of the way through their struggles and their triumphs. That is what this community is built on; support and encouragement.

Don't think you have the time?  You can put as little or as much time as you want into this! One size doesn't fit all and there are options to fit every schedule.  You are your own Boss, you decide!  And of course you always have the option to start as one type of Coach & change to another.

If you're feeling those little tugs on your heart strings telling you this might be for you.  Do yourself the favor & tune into this Coach Info Webinar.  Don't miss out on the opportunity to do what you love. Contact me via Facebook to Sign-Up!

Your body will actually work MORE efficiently and will help you feel good and lose weight at the same time, SAFELY.

You have Shakeology for breakfast, Vanilla Fresh Shakes to curb hunger for lunch & dinner and a Fibre Sweep Drink. The program Guide lists the wide variety of fresh fruits, vegetables & healthy fats to choose from throughout the day plus 9 satisfying dinner recipes.

Thinking of all the festive goodies you'll be indulging in over the holidays? Yeah, me too! I like to do a cleanse after the holidays when I may have not been fuelling my body the best that I should. It helps your body get back into eating a healthy diet of whole foods and helps to kick start weight loss if you happened to acquire a little "Holiday Fluff" around the waistline.

I'll be ordering mine to have it arrive just after the holidays. I plan on doing a 3-Day Refresh before my next 21 Day Challenge Group that starts on January 4th. Starting the New Year off right! If you'd like some support during your 3-Day Refresh reach out and connect with me & we can do it together! If you'd like to get in on my 21 Day Challenge Group fill out an application HERE.
